Wheelchair-Accessible Shuttle Transportation
Accessibility means more than getting a wheelchair onto the bus. We want you to know how the vehicle, lift, boarding process and destinations work before you book, including where you may encounter accessibility limitations.
Rainbow Rockies provides wheelchair-accessible shuttle transportation with space for up to two wheelchair users.
Our shuttle
Wheelchair Access on Our Vehicle
Our vehicle is equipped with:
- A Braun wheelchair lift with a 1,000-pound capacity
- Two wheelchair spaces
- A four-point wheelchair securement system with a safety belt
- A wheelchair lift located on the passenger side of the bus
Passengers can remain in their wheelchair while travelling.
If you’re unsure whether your wheelchair or mobility device will fit safely on the lift or in the securement area, contact us before booking and we’ll help confirm.
The accessibility details
Your accessible trip
How wheelchair boarding works
Your driver will explain the boarding process before the lift moves.
The lift is lowered and the passenger moves onto the platform. Once the safety belt is secured, the driver will let the passenger know before raising the lift to the bus floor.
The driver can assist with positioning the wheelchair in the designated space, secure the wheelchair and offer assistance with the safety belt.
If assistance is needed during the trip, the driver will stop in a safe location before providing help.
Accessible pickup
Our wheelchair lift is on the passenger side of the bus. All of our pickup locations can accommodate the lift, so you can choose the location that works best for you.
If you’d prefer pickup from another downtown Banff hotel or meeting point, just let us know. We can arrange that too, with your pickup time adjusted as needed.
Accessibility at Lake Louise
Lake Louise has wet washrooms with accessible stalls, and the waterfront pathway is accessible too, so you can spend time by the lake and enjoy the views.
Accessibility at Moraine Lake
Moraine Lake has dry washrooms with accessible pit toilets, as well as an accessible viewing area where you can take in the lake.
The Rockpile itself is not wheelchair accessible and can also be challenging for people with mobility limitations. We want you to know that before you arrive so you can plan your time at Moraine Lake with a clear idea of what to expect.
Destination accessibility
Before you book
Our vehicle accessibility and destination accessibility are not the same thing. While the shuttle can accommodate wheelchair users, some trails, viewpoints and other areas at the destinations may not be accessible.
When booking, select the wheelchair ticket option so we know you’ll require one of the vehicle’s wheelchair spaces.
If you have questions about the lift, boarding process or destination conditions before booking, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
